I was fortunate enough to be selected to have my art digitally displayed on the Fusion Art gallery website. There were 406 works entered and I made the honorable mention list. My artwork is Beautiful Sadness. It is a drawing done with alcohol ink on marker paper. It depicts an endangered butterfly resting on lupine. The blooms of the lupine are the primary food source for this species. I created this work the day I put down my cat. I was on the phone with my mother at the time and had the overwhelming urge to draw. My cat had been suffering for quite awhile. My art is a coping mechanism for me and is my "GO TO" in an emotional moment. I found my mood shifting from that of sadness to deep reflection. My cat was blind, so I was thinking of the moment he crossed the "rainbow bridge" and the burst of light and colors. He would have felt that long fought for painless moment. His spirit would be light as a butterfly. Butterflies are symbolic of transformation, so I chose a Karner blue; an endangered one from my home state. The end result was beautiful. Beautiful Sadness.
